October 2018

[singlepic id=121 w=320 h=240 float=right]Normally we harvest around 15 to 20 tons. Part of growing quality grapes, is to not over produce. Also, since we sell most of our grapes, it’s helpful to keep four to six tons for ourselves and offer quality fruit to our buyers.

Throughout the month of October we plan to mow, disc and plant a cover crop and get the vineyard ready for the winter.  For the cover crop, we plant grass every other row and beans and peas every other row to add nitrogen to the soil. We are also planning to put in three more owl houses.  We definitely have owls on the property and we want to maintain them keep the rodents down.
