January 2014 journal

This time of year we start irrigation if there isn’t enough rain to keep the vines roots wet enough so they don’t totally dry out. It’s also important to irrigate the cover crop.  We planted it about six weeks ago, we like to see the seed germination by now. We might still have a late rains and that might help us with the cover crop.  This is important because need the nitrogen for the vines that comes from the cover crop.

We are still waiting the owls to come to the vineyard. We still have another month where it might still happen.  We’ve got the houses all set up and we’re just in a waiting mode to see if we can get some owls to take up residence in the vineyard.
